The Philosopher-in-Residence Blog Series from Make Me A Plan's Principal Planner, Anna Pascoe
06.10.2022.

Eagle-eyed members of Plankind may be aware that this Philosopher-in-Residence has been neurologically impaired since a rather combative bout of bacterial meningitis in 2020, which has led to a medical need to actively avoid screentime. Trying to work around this has pretty much dominated life ever since, especially since the net promoter score of online meetings et al has soared faster than a post-mini-Budget rate of inflation in the Covid-flavoured era.

Much more enjoyable than meningitis sequelae is the buzz of project development and it was as I was preparing this blog topic recently that I realised it coincided with a milestone moment in one of the company’s projects; a brand refresh for our ScreenFree Sunday SuperPlanners (scroll down the page to recap on their takeover week of our social platforms, unveiling their trendy new look and reminding everyone of their specialities).

Sometimes we values-driven folk are the worst at taking our own advice and the ScreenFree Sunday SuperPlanners brand refresh was a timely reminder that before I had to avoid screentime, it was something I did as a positive habit, to be able to be more present in this United Plandom we inhabit, to avoid the stress of doomscrolling and to perk my brain and body up by making time for non-screen-related hobbies and activities old and new.

You can’t change your values but you can change your behaviour: make sure you’re not so busy doing the do/scrolling on your phone that you forget about planning time and headspace for pastimes that enrich rather than envelop.

Next fortnight, I’ll be musing On Strike. With more strikes than you can shake an inadequate pay offer at going on at the moment, it seems like a timely topic to focus on.

Please get in touch with any particular aspects of this subject you’d like me to write about.

In the meantime,

Happy Planning
