ONE OF THOSE DAYS
Have you ever had one of those days? A day that just feels ‘off’ somehow…you feel a little quiet and pensive, procrastinate over what to do and how to do it, feel a little sad, tired or uncreative – but you just can’t seem to put a finger on why? Well, that’s where I am today.
I have a million and one things that I could be doing but instead I am sitting down writing my next blog post to you lovely people to show you that everyone has these days. People that you think are always productive and cause you to marvel at how busy, vibrant and energetic they seem to be, have these days. Those who seem to always be happy and not a care in the world, have these days…and that’s ok.
We tend to keep pushing through when we have these days, trying to achieve what feels necessary for the day. So, with that in mind, my morning has consisted of a lot of semi-preparation and procrastination on various jobs, until I sat down and made peace with my mindset, accepting it instead of working against it. That doesn’t mean that I have given up for the day and am not doing anything, or that the work that I have done has gone to waste – quite the contrary. Instead I have decided to do the jobs today that work with my mood rather than against it so that I can actually be more productive than I would be if I was working against that feeling.
Our minds like to keep us occupied and line up the next task before we’ve even finished our current task, making our ‘to-do’ lists even bigger. It’s no wonder that some days we rebel against ourselves and struggle to get through, even the top 3 on the ‘to-do’ list in our head. At times like this instead of not being productive and letting the day get lost in a whirlwind of procrastination I like to choose things that I can work with and lucky for me writing helps me get my thoughts straight and be productive at the same time.
If you’re having one of those days, the key thing is to be kind to yourself, take the pressure off and do something that will help you in that moment – whatever that is. It may be taking a walk, sitting with a cuppa, reprioritising your day or taking out 30 minutes to do something you enjoy. Make time for you and what you need, I promise that you will feel better for it and strangely enough you will be more productive too.
